Do you have a patient, or loved one who is biting on straws or putting them too far into his/her mouth? Or do you need to work on oral motor skills like lip closure, tongue retraction, and cheek tension? This straw topper may be just what youre looking for!

ARK’s Lip Blok mouthpieces aresimple yet effective oral motor tools that naturally exercise the mouth muscles todiscourage tongue-thrusting, promote tongue retraction, and correct overall tongue and lip positioning. They also prevent individuals from biting the straw or putting it too far into their mouths. Simply press the stem into the top of a regular straw, and you’re ready to drink. Suitable for both children and adults.

The Lip Blok comes in three differentmouthpiece lengths 34 (yellow, clear, pink lips, or orange mustache), 12 (blue), and 14 (teal). For the best results, start with the longest 34 length. Once the individual becomes accustomed to that length, switch to the 12, and then finally to the 14. This hierarchy slowly teaches individuals to put less and less of the straw into their mouths. When only 14 is inside the mouth, fluid is deposited in the front of the mouth where it is easier to manage and less likely to cause coughing or aspiration. With shorter lengths, you also get a better oral motor workout, as the tongue retracts more, the lips seal better, and the cheeks have more tension.
